Subject: Mike location
Having just been at the Norva the night before, I can attest that the "best location" is not always the best location. The tapers were crushed against the board by the crowd, and I was isolated in a particularly bad spot for the first set. Even after joining the other tapers in their safer "location" during the second set, it was rough. So as not to be rude I went up to the balcony for a while to be with my friends (I hadn't seen them in a long time), and came down to see Lou frantically waving his flashlight up at my rig - someone had knocked the mikes completely askew.

So even though soundwise the taping section at 9:30 wasn't perfect, I gladly took the hit in return for the peace of mind. Also, when I was raising my mikes as high as possible above the crowd I didn't take into account the balcony - that's probably where most of the talking is coming from.

Subject: what a shame
The recording quality is fine, and the show sounds like it was pretty good, though not as rockin' as the Rams Head show a few night's earlier (which I was at and was hoping to find here).

But the crowd noise ruins the recording. Not the recorder's fault ... just the nature of the venue I would guess (have never been there) ... throughout the show you can hear conversations in the background. And then there's the requisite asshole with the Indian hoot yells during Girl from Ipanema, which was a clever cover live.

Too bad there was not a better spot for tapers to place their mics, or a crowd willing to listen to the show instead of talking through it.

Subject: Amazing Show
I really gotta say, I dig the sound the WMD'S have. I wasn't at Bonnaroo but went to the Ram's Head and the 9:30 and both shows blew me away. I was expecting a sound that sounded nothing like what I heard. Going in, I was thinking Keller would treat us to a more blue-grassy set; but when he started straight rocking out, I was really really impressed. One more thing: I was really surprised by the crowd that came out to both shows. I was expecting alot more energy out of them. Oh, well, didn't stop me from dancing :)
